Old Yen Ping Street

The Old Yen Ping Street is located in an alleyway east of Anping Fort (Fort Zeelandia). It was once a trading hub and the only shop-lined street in Tainan City. The sword-clenching lion adorning the threshold of private residences along the street is the guardian angel of Anping.

Many of the shops along the street are still famous today. For example, the century-old toy shop Jin Chuan Hsing displays a wide range of folklore toys, including bizarre childhood snacks, milk caps, playing cards and puppets that are sure to rekindle one's childhood memories.

The Yung Tai Hsing Fruit Preserves provides an extensive variety of fruit preserves, offering what seems an infinite array of tastes. Be it mouthwatering, sweet, tart or zingy, there is something for every palate. The containers that hold the fruit preserves seem ordinary, but they have endured decades of history.

The Guei Ji Wok Stew offers translucent yet chewy wok stew that is sure to titillate one's palate. The stew has a wonderful light taste. Ingredients such as tiger lilly buds, squid and oysters are prepared in a broth that is cured for over three hours. It is truly a gastronomic treat.

Finally, Anping Soybean Junket gives all visitors a taste of pure soybean ingredients prepared in traditional ways. Not only does the soybean junket taste supple, but it almost melts in your mouth the moment you taste it. The perfectly sweet syrup is something that one does not want to miss out on.
