Tainan County -- Introduction

Tainan County is located at the center of the largest plain in southwest Taiwan -- the Chianan Plain. "Tainan" in Chinese means "south Taiwan". The county sits in the front area of the central Range to the east and borders the Taiwan Strait to the west.

There are a great number of temples in Tainan County. Many of the people here worship "Wang Yeh", which in a Taoist sense refers to the brothers of the Jade Emperor. Indeed, Tainan County has more Wang Yeh temples than any other type of temple.

Famous scenic spots in Tainan County include temples, seashores, lakes and mountains. Tainan County has more reservoirs than any other county in Taiwan. These include Tsengwen, Baihe, Chienshanpi, Teyuanpei, Wushantou, Luliao, Hutoupei, Mirror and Nanhua reservoirs. In addition to supplying drinking and irrigation water, these reservoirs are also renowned scenic areas.
