Hengchun Onion Fair

 

The cultivation of onions in Taiwan is mostly concentrated at the Hengchun Peninsula in southern Taiwan's Pingtung County. One would see rich production of onions everywhere in Checheng, Fonggang and Hengchun townships in March and April every year.

Naturally conditioned by the strong gale down the mountains, Hengchun's onions are incomparably sweet and juicy. Sliced freshly and dipped in light dressing, the onion itself is tasty enough.

Onions are generally viewed as a healthy food, with considerable medical effects. They have natural vitamins and glucose, which are good for strengthening one's metabolism and vitalizing one's body organics. Ingesting onions everyday helps one enhance his or her immunity and prevent illness.
