Wanjin Catholic Church (Wanjin Basilica)
The Wanjin Catholic Church, or Wanjin Basilica, is located in Wanluan Township in southern Taiwan's Pingtung County. It was established by a Filipino priest during the Qing Dynasty. The church was completely restored in 1960. It is now Taiwan's oldest church and qualifies as a third-class historic site. The church was referred to by Pope Paul II as the "Holy Cathedral of Mary". An inscription on a stone plaque inside the church implies that it was erected by consent of the Qing Dynasty's Manchu authorities. |
