Longluan Lake (Longluantan)

Longluan Lake, or Longluantan, is located in Hengchun Township in southern Taiwan's Pingtung County. It is the largest natural freshwater lake in Taiwan.

During the Qing Dynasty, the area around Longluan Lake was the production center for agricultural and fishing industries in Hengchun. It is also a migratory spot for some birds. Statistics show that there are about 180 migratory birds resting in this area every year. In order to protect and preserve these migratory birds, the Kenting National Park has been planning to better manage the area since 1988. In 1994, a natural center was established as an environment friendly structure that connects to the area's natural environment. There is also a 800-meter walking track for bird watching.

The Longluan Lake Natural Center introduces the area's natural environment and ecological resources. Its exhibition is divided into three sections, where visitors can learn more about the Longluan Lake, the migratory birds and other general information about birds. The center also provides books and guides, as well as a wide range of merchandise. Most significantly, the center has 12 sophisticated telescopes for local and international visitors to watch birds around the lake.
