Spring Scream Music Festival

The Spring Scream Music Festival is a well-known Taiwanese underground music carnival. It takes place every year in Kenting in southern Taiwan's Pingtung County.

At first, the festival was designed to be a simple and artistic event for fun and relaxation. However, it has now become a large-scale concert program that is a highlight for southern Taiwan. With a mix of high emotional energy and sweaty excitement, the event gathers several hundred underground music groups for a marathon type song-festival.

In 1999, the first Spring Scream was organized by two foreigners, Jimmy and Wade. They invited both professional music groups and amateurs to perform at the beautiful scenic Kenting beach. Beneath the blue sky and vast ocean, the performers heartily sing and play, while fans enjoy themselves sitting on the ground or dancing to the rhythm. Now, the Spring Scream Music Festival has become an annual pilgrimage for many underground performing groups, including those that come from abroad. The event attracts three or four thousand people every year, and has become bigger and bigger as the years go by. It even combines cross-cultural performances, videos and short films to reflect original creations from both domestic and foreign music performers.
