Pingtung County -- Introduction

 

Pingtung County is the southernmost county in Taiwan. The county is surrounded by sea in three directions -- the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Taiwan Strait to the west, and the Bashi Channel to the south. Located in the tropical zone, Pingtung County's weather is warm and its natural scenery is beautiful. The area is filled with the flavor of Southeast Asia, including plenty of coconut trees. Indeed, Pingtung County is called the "Southeast Asia of Taiwan".

There are many famous tourist attractions in Pingtung County. The Kenting National Park is the first national park in Taiwan. All along the coast, there are sites that are perfect for swimming and other forms of recreation. One can go scuba diving and enjoy the beautiful coral reefs, or take a stroll and pick up shells on the beach. One can also go to Erlunbi at the southern tip of Taiwan. He or she can look to the left for the Pacific Ocean and to the right for the Taiwan Strait.

Most significantly, Pingtung County is the interim resting place for migrating birds. Strikes come here for the winter, while gray-faced falcons arrive in every October. It is an ideal place for bird watching. Meanwhile, because there is no pollution here, the sky in clear at night and it is a good place for watching the moon and the stars.
