Lovers' Gorge (Chingren Gu) and Duona Hot Spring

The Lovers' Gorge (Chingren Gu) and Duona Hot Spring are located in Kaohsiung County's Maolin Township. In 1957, the government renamed the place. The major aboriginal tribe here is the Rukai.

The Lovers' Gorge is famous for its hot springs, canyons and rivers. It is also a perfect camping site. The most famous scenic spot here is the Chingren Waterfall, which has five levels. A suspension bridge leads to the first level. Continue climbing for about 10 minutes and one will find the second level. It is very cool and comfortable around the waterfall, which makes it a perfect summer resort.

The Duona Hot Spring is representative of the open-air wild-river type of hot spring, with sodium carbonate water that moistens and lightens the skin. It is also believed to be useful in treating chronic digestive complaints and women's ailments. The hot-spring pools are located near a river, so after taking a hot bath one can jump into the cold river water right away.
