Shanping Forest Ecological Science Park

The Shanping Forest Ecological Science Park is located in Kaohsiung County's Maolin Township, at an altitude of 750 meters at the southernmost tip of the Central Mountain Range. It is currently governed by the Forestry Research Institute's Liouguei branch. The park boasts a complete forest ecological system and is an important bird-watching area in southern Taiwan. Hence the name "Bird-watchers' Paradise".

There are a total f 134 bird species in the park, the residents of which make up two third of that of the total number in Taiwan. The Shanping Nursery Garden is an important place for growing seedlings. The park also is the site of the most important forestry research base in southern Taiwan with experiment and research projects, which serves as a post for researchers to rest their feet and exchange results of their studies.

In the park, there are slate houses, exhibitions of landscape plants and trees, orchards and botanical gardens. In addition, there are a total of 139 species of butterflies here.
