Yushan Tianchi and Cypress Valley

Tianchi marks the midpoint of the Southern Cross-Island Highway. It is also the terminus for buses from Tainan and Taitung counties.

At Tianchi, one can visit a shrine, which was built to commemorate the veterans and workers who died building the Southern Cross-Island Highway. From the shrine, one can also gain splendid views of Yushan South Peak and the southern part of the Central Mountain Range.

About 6 kilometers from the shrine, along the Southern Cross-Island Highway, one comes to a place called Cypress Valley. This is one of the most important natural forests along the highway.
