Jinshi Lake

Jinshi Lake is located in Kaohsiung City's Sanmin District. It is situated at the upper reaches of the Love River at the northeastern side of Kaohsiung City. The lake's original name was "Dapi", but it was later renamed as "Jinshi" because it is located next to Shishan, or Mt Shi.

MT Shi used to be called Hutoushan, or MT Hutou ("Hutou" means "tiger's head" in Chinese.) After 1945, certain fengshui master discovered that the mountain has an auspicious terrain, just like a crouching lion. Therefore, the mountain was renamed "Shi", which means "lion" in Chinese. Meanwhile, because the soil here is loess, people use "jin", which means "gold" in Chinese, to describe it.

MT Shi has exuberant forests, including plenty of old banyans with twisted roots and intricate gnarls. There is a pavilion on the mountain. As local and international visitors reach the pavilion, they gain a splendid panoramic view of the green hills and plains around.

The water of the Jinshi Lake flows into Kaohsiung Port through the Love River. The Jinshi Lake Park covers an area of 25 hectares, while the lake itself is about as big as 11 hectares. Currently, the park's administration is working hard to cultivate all kinds of trees and plants here in order to make it a green forest of Kaohsiung City.
