Soil and Water ConservationAs introduced by the Taiwan Yearbook 2007:
The torrential rains of the annual monsoon and typhoon seasons do a great deal of damage to Taiwan's mountainous terrain, causing flooding and landslides that lead to loss of life and property in mountainous areas. The Soil and Water Conservation Bureau (SWCB) of the Council of Agriculture (COA) has established a debris flow monitoring system to issue advance warnings to residents in landslide prone areas. The SWCB also designates areas in which water and soil conservation is of particular concern, and promotes the use of ecologically sound engineering methods. |
