Formosan Landlocked Salmon Refuge
The Formosan landlocked salmon (Oncorhynchus masou formosanus) found itself located in frigid mountain waters as a result of the last Ice Age. Then, as a result of over-fishing, pollution and other human factors, its numbers declined sharply. The salmon was declared an Endangered Species in 1989. The Formosan Landlocked Salmon Refuge was therefore established 1997 to protect this rare species.
