Taipei hosted APEC Conference on Recycling

This article was written by Cecilia Fanchiang and published by the Taiwan Journal on October 21, 2005. It features the APEC Conference on Recycling, which was recently held in Taipei. The conference was designed as a venue for APEC nations to exchange their experiences on waste-handling practices, examine leading-edge recycling technologies, and develop strategies and partnerships for handling environmental issues.

The conference was part of the Capacity Building for Recycling-Based Economy in APEC framework. Environmental officials and experts from Japan, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and Thailand joined their Taiwanese counterparts at the event. The main focus of the conference was how to reduce the volume of refuse created in an era of growing consumer activity. In particular, the flourishing global trade has made recycling and waste recovery an international headache in recent decades.

More details about the conference are provided by this article.
