Local green groups focus on batteries for 2006 Earth Day

This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on April 20, 2006. It reports that Taiwan's environmental groups plan to launch an Earth Day campaign on April 22. They will invite the public to recycle used batteries and ink cartridges for computer printers.

The main theme of the 2006 Earth Day is "Climate Change Solutions Campaign". For example, the Society of Wildness in Taiwan will launch its recycling program in nine cities and counties around the nation. These include Taipei City, Taipei County, Taoyuan County, Hsinchu County, Taichung County, Chiayi County, Tainan County, Yilan County and Hualien County.

The Society of Wildness will promote 10 ways in which people can contribute to environmental protection. These include carrying their own chopsticks while dining out, paying attention to pro-environment news, and paying heed to the environmental policies of candidates during elections.

Meanwhile, a series of activities will take place at the Sungshan Tobacco Factory in Taipei on April 22, in order to educate the public about various ways of enjoying an eco-friendly lifestyle. There will be demonstrations of how to recycle paper, and test rides on electric bicycles.
