Fines to be applied for poorly sorted household waste
This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on March 31, 2006. It reports that according to the Environmental Protection Administration, starting on April 1, violators of the garbage separation and collection classification scheme will be hit with fines from NT$1,200 to a maximum of NT$6,000. The garbage separation and collection classification scheme has been enforced in ten cities and counties around Taiwan since the beginning of 2006. It requires the public to sort their garbage into three categories - ordinary garbage, recyclables and food scraps. According to the Environmental Protection Administration, garbage that is not properly separated will be rejected, and the offenders will face fines. The policy will be implemented in Taiwan's 25 cities and counties in the near future. Publicity films will be shown on television and before moving screenings in the coming months. |
