Taiping Mountain (Taipingshan)

Taipng Mountain (Taipingshan) is located Datong Township in northern Taiwan's Yilan County. It is one of Taiwan's three major forest recreation areas.

With a moist climate and abundant rainfall, Taiping Mountain has nurtured an environment rich in ecological resources. The forests here consist of such valuable trees as Taiwan cypress, Taiwan hemlock, and Japanese cypress. The area is also blessed with geothermal energy at the Renze Hot Springs. Other enchanting scenic spots in Taiping Mountain include Tsuifeng Lake, which is the largest alpine lake in Taiwan, plenty of forest walking tracks, and several wildlife conservation areas.

Another prime tourist spot in Taiping Mountain is the Taipingshan Primeval Forest Park. It can be accessed via flights of stone steps lined with purple-leafed maple trees that become particularly rich in color between the months of March and November. The primeval forest park used to be a major logging area. Traces of the old logging equipment can still be seen here, including the old forestry railroad, ruins of a cable car up the mountain, motorized carts, and trestles.

Also in Taiping Mountain, visitors can savor the constantly changing sight of the "sea of clouds", the brilliant sunrise, forest waterfalls, and other alluring scenes. Indeed, Taiping Mountain is a favorite vacation spot for both local and international visitors.

Entry to Taiping Mountain requires a B-class mountain permit, and an A-class permit is needed to proceed on to Tsuifeng Lake. Visitors can get their permits by presenting their IDs or passports at the Taipingshan Inspection Post.
