Mingchih Forest Recreation Area

Mingchih Forest Recreation Area is located 17 kilometers up the road from the Chilan Forest Recreation Area, at the highest point of the Northern Cross-Island Highway, in northern Taiwan's Yilan County.

In Mingchih Forest Recreation Area there is a lake of the same name that is often shrouded by fog. Meaning "bright lake" in Chinese, the lake nestled beautifully amidst the mountains and is surrounded by planted cryptomeria and old-growth cypress. A walking trail around the lake and various look-out pavilions make it easy for visitors to enjoy the natural scenery.

The Mingchih Hostel in Mingchih Forest Recreation Area provides meals and accommodation in 32 hotel rooms and 36 cabins.
