Chiang Kai-shek International Airport

The Chiang Kai-shek International Airport is located in Dayuan Township in northern Taiwan's Taoyuan County. It is approximately 40 kilometers (or 50 minutes by car or bus) southwest of Taipei City.

The airport, opened in 1979, is one of the newest and most advanced airports in Asia. Its initial capacity was for 30,000 flights per year. However, since the opening of the second terminal in 2000, the airport has been handling more than 149,000 flights every year.

In 2004, the airport processed approximately 20 million travelers, an amazing figure when compared to the original expectation of three million in 1979. Also in 2004 the airport's cargo volume was 1,5 million tons, while in 1979 it was only 190,000 tons.

From the Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport there are buses that take visitors to every corner of Taiwan. Otherwise, visitors can call a taxi, rent a car, or take a ride with families, friends or colleagues who pick them up from the airport.
