Kueishan Island

Kueishan Island, also known as Turtle Island, is named for its resemblance to a sea turtle when viewed from a certain angle. It is a volcanic islet about 10 kilometers east of the coast at Toucheng Townshpi, in Ilan (Yilan) County.

Traces of volcanic activity are still evident today on Kueishan Island, such as sulfur fumaroles and underwater hot springs. Most of the island has been preserved in its pristine original state, untouched by man. The island has been designated as an Oceanic Ecology Park.

Kueishan Island has long been known for its "Eight Wonders" -- the sunrise over Kueishan Mountain, sulfur jets, the steep precipices of Turtle Rock, turtle egg rock formations, swishing turtle tail rock, hatted turtle rock, stalactites, and ocean hot springs.
