Longdongwan Coast Park
At the southern edge of the Longdongwan Coast Park, the sheer sandstone cliffs of Longdong Cape have become the premier rock-climbing destination in Northern Taiwan. Since the cliffs are only 30-odd meters high and have a wide variety of surface forms, they are perfect for training rock-climbing skills. Longdongwan Coast Park offers stunning vistas of Bitou Cape, Sandiau Cape, and Audi Bay. There are two stories about the origins of the name of Longdong (which means "Dragon Cave" in Chinese). Some say the bay itself is like a curved dragon, while others say the Chinese name of the area is a transliteration of an aboriginal word for "monkey", since a nearby hill resembles a monkey. The bay area has a maximum ocean depth of 32 meters. Its clear waters provide an ideal environment for various marine species, making it one of Taiwan's top two diving sites. The wide variety of recreational facilities here makes the Longdongwan Coast Park a perfect location for other water activities as well. Longdongwan Cape Trail The Longdongwan Cape Trail connects the Longdongwan Coast Park in the north and the Longdong South Coast Park in the south. The trail can be linked further north to the coastal Bitou Cape Trail. Although Longdong Cape and Bitou Cape are separated by only three kilometers, they are far more distantly related in terms of geological time, with the former a relatively young 3.5 million years old and the latter tracing back some 40 million years. The Longdongwan Cape Trail itself offers impressive views of towering sea cliffs, stratified coastal landscapes, and crashing waves. Longdong South Coast Park
There are four ocean water pools within Longdong South Coast Park. Visitors of all age groups can swim or dive here and appreciate the beautiful fishes and coral reefs. The best time to enjoy the water is from June to September. Longdong Marina Longdong Marina is an outdoor educational center that combines seashore fun with the learning of marine ecology. It is an ideal spot for swimming, snorkeling, and observing the marvels of the undersea world. Longdong Marina has three former abalone ponds that have been converted to natural seawater swimming pools. The depth of the water varies with the tide, from knee-deep at low tide to three meters at high tide. Since the pools are connected with the sea, they are inhabited by tropical fish, sea anemones, starfish, shrimp, crabs, and other marine life. The pools are open for swimming from June to October. The Visitor Center here contains an exhibition hall that features the geology and coastal life along Taiwan's Northeast Coast. On the platform below the center, visitors can observe sea-eroded rock formations and intertidal organisms in their natural living environment. Longdong Marina can accommodate 96 medium to large yachts (56 long-term berths and 40 short-term berths) and 20 small yachts. Up to 37 yachts can moor at the dock area. The area is designed to handle yachts up to 60 feet long. It also encompasses a sea area, embarking point, onshore boat parking and landscaping, as well as management, crane, repair, parking and environmental protection facilities. |
