Northeast Coast Scenic Area

Taiwan's northeastern coasts have beautiful nature, primitive scenery and rich tourist resources. In order to meet the needs of domestic tourism, the Tourism Bureau asked the National Chengchi University to conduct a research on the coasts in 1969. In February 1982, the government claimed the northeastern coasts to be an official tourist spot.

In order to develop and conserve the natural resources along the northeastern coasts, a management bureau was set up on June 1, 1984. The bureau was reformed on July 1, 1995, with an intention to provide a better and more diverse recreation field for Taiwan's citizens.

The Northeastern Coast Scenic Area stretches from Nanya in Taipei County to Toucheng in Ilan County. There are many rivers in this area, which have formed an interactive ecological system.

The northeastern coasts face the mountains in the west and the ocean in the east, presenting magnificent views. Furthermore, resources along the coasts are even more abundant. Visitors can find beautiful coral reefs, fishes, algae, and shellfishes here.

The following is a map of major tourist attractions along the Northeast Coast and Neighboring Areas.
