Haimentienhsien (Sea Gate Barrier Fort)

Haimentienhsien, or the Sea Gate Barrier Fort, is located further up the hill from Chungcheng Park in Keelung City. Here are the remains of the fortifications that once guarded Keelung Harbor. It is also known as the Ershawan Fort.

The fort was built in 1840. Today, there are a number of replica cannons marking the original gun emplacements. The fortifications cover a wide area, and there are many shaded walking tracks. The fortress gate, which is still well preserved, has been designated a historic site of the first rank.
