Mangrove Conservation Area

The Mangrove (Hungshulin) Conservation Area is located near the Hungshulin Station along the Tamshui (Danshui) Line of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network in Taipei City. It is the largest area of homogenous mangrove swamp of a type called "shuibitzai" (kandelia candel) in Chinese, which means "water pen". This type of mangrove has adapted to the salty waters that wash into the Tamshui (Danshui) River with the tides.

The Mangrove Conservation Area is full for riverside birds, such as egrets and snipes. There are also over 30 kinds of crabs in the area. There is a Mangrove Swamp Exhibition Center on the second floor of the Hungshulin Station, where visitors can gain an understanding of the special ecology of the swamps.
