January-November visitor arrivals up 4.2% year-on-year

 

This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on January 6, 2007. It reports that according to the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, visitors arrivals to Taiwan totalled 3.196 million between January and November 2006, an increase of 4.2 percent from the previous year.

Of these arrivals, 1.346 million were for sightseeing purposes, an increase of 9.4 percent from the previous year.

During the first 11 months of 2006, Japanese citizens remain at the top of the list in terms of number of visitors to Taiwan, accounting for 1.062 million arrivals. In November 2006 alone, visitor arrivals to Taiwan increased 5.4 percent from the previous year, to 319,000. Among these, 115,000 were from Japan.

Meanwhile, Taiwanese citizens made a total of 8.056 million trips overseas between January and November 2006, an increase of 5.3 percent from the previous year. While the number of trips made by Taiwanese people to Hong Kong and Macau increased 6.3 percent from the previous year, to 3.923 million, the number of visits to Japan rose 3 percent to 1.134 million.

In November 2006 alone, Taiwanese people made a total of 642,000 trips overseas, an increase of 14.6 percent from the previous year. Among these, 543,000 trips were to other countries in Asia.
