Puppet show images reflect Taiwan best, poll reveals

This article was published by the Taiwan Headlines on February 24, 2006. It reports that according to results of a recent online poll, Taiwanese puppet shows, Mount Jade, the Taipei 101 building, Taiwanese cuisine, and the Formosan landlocked salmon are the five images that best represent Taiwan.

The nationwide poll was organized by the Government Information Office to search for the images of Taiwan. More than 780,000 people responded to the poll.

Other popular images are the Mount Ali (Alishan), the Sun Moon Lake, the Taiwanese opera, traditional temple fairs, wild lilies, Kaohsiung City's Love River, Taipei City's Grand Hotel, and Taiwan's lantern festival. The Buddhist Compassionate Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, which is dedicated to benevolent activities and relief all over the world, also received a significant number of votes.

The Government Information Office will organize another activity in the near future to choose the drawings that best represent the five winning images. The government will use the best drawings as a reference when designing Taiwan's logo for world activities.
