Documentaries made in Taiwan hit the airwaves
This article was written by Rita Fang and published by the Taiwan Journal on December 16, 2005. It features four films about Taiwan, which are being broadcast to an international audience on the National Geographic Channel in December 2005. These four films are being translated into 27 languages and aired in 163 countries. The four films are part of a cooperative project between the National Geographic Channel International and Taiwan's Government Information Office. The project is titled "Taiwan to the World". The first film, "Cockroach Confidential", explores how cockroaches are loved as pets, eaten as food, and used as medicine to treat anything from heart disease to skin wounds in places such as Taiwan, Australia and China. The second film, "Spirit Talk", introduces Taiwanese beliefs about death and the afterlife. The third film, "Pigeon Game", looks at the "national obsession" of pigeon racing in Taiwan. The final film, "The Butterfly Code", investigates the lives of various species of butterflies. More detailed information about the "Taiwan to the World" project and the four documentary films is provided in this article. |
