Welcome to Taiwan.com.au Portal

Taiwan.com.au Portal is a cultural and business conduit between Australia and Taiwan, two countries with some remarkable similarities yet many complementary skills, materials and products.

For example, both Australia and Taiwan have around 23 million citizens. Both have around 300,000 indigenous people. Australians and Taiwanese share a similar standard of living, with the pursuits, tastes and time that go with it. Meanwhile, there are significant differences between Australia and Taiwan, which make one place an interesting and valuable destination for people, products and services from the other place.

Australians occupy a large landmass with scant human resources, which has affected the types of cultural and business pursuits they excel at. Australian culture is overlaid upon Western democratic traditions - Australia is one of the oldest democracies in the world - and upon European and American business roots.

The Taiwanese occupy a much smaller area, formerly known as Formosa, a rich and mountainous island. The official language of Taiwan is Mandarin. The Taiwanese culture, though thoroughly modern and high-tech oriented - most of the world's laptops, computer chips and monitors come from Taiwan - is heavily influenced by traditional Chinese ways and customs. Indeed, many artistic treasures and traditional Chinese skills that would have perished under the Cultural Revolution in Mainland China, found home and roots in Taiwan.
